Pollen Atlas Glossary

Angular

type of pollen shape in polar view.

Anisopolar

pollen grain with different poles.

Anulus

thickened or thinned ring-shaped membrane around a pore.

Aperture

opening to allow pollen tube germination. Zone of pollen grain surface in which the exine thins or completely lacks.

Apiculate

kind of pollen shape in equatorial view.

Apocolpium

polar area delimited by the colpus extremities.

Apolar

(POLLEN) – pollen grain without a distinct polarity.

Apoporium

polar area delimited by the pori extremities.

Areolate

ref. sculture. Sporoderm divided into areas or islands and surrounded by absence of reticulum.

Aspidioporate

aperture with two thickened and sharp protuberances.

Atrium

cavity found in aspidioporate pollens.
