Pollen Atlas Glossary

Cerebroid

sporoderm made up of rugulate and verrucate ornaments, similar to the human brain.

Clavate

sporoderm without tectum with isodiametric elements whose height exceeds their width.

Colpate

pollen grain with aperture made up by colpus.

Colpoid

pollen grain with aperture which looks like a colpus but with nuanced edges.

Colporate

pollen grain with aperture made up by colpus and pore.

Colporoidate

pollen grain with aperture made up by colpus and poroid.

Colpus

elongated aperture, similar to a sulcus, whose length is greater than width. It is usually extends from poles to the equator.

Columella

synonym of baculum. Structural element connecting the tectum to the basal layer of the sporoderm.

Costa

endexinium thickening around an aperture.

Crassinexinium

very thick (> 2 um) ectexinium.

Crassitegillate

ref. sculture. Exine with a very thick tectum.

Crista

crista-shaped ornamental element of the murus.

Cristate

sporoderm with sculptural elements like cristae.

Cytoplasm

internal content of the pollen.
